Communication Design

These were a collection of projects I completed for "Design for Interactions for Communications" (51-262). This class was mainly focused on leaning the foundations of visual communication, which are relevant to a variety of disciplines, such as two-dimensional composition, letterforms, typesetting, and the typographic grid. Through studio projects, presentations, and demonstrations, we became familiar with the visual and verbal language of communication designers, the design process, and the communicative value of word and image. We mainly used Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Zine Design
For this project, I had to make make a few zine pages for a topic of choice to spread awareness about the topic. Being a health nut myself, I decided to choose gut health. In the few designs I made, I pointed out how expensive probiotics can be and brought up potential cheap alternatives to keep your gut healthy while on a budget.

Type Specimen Poster
For this project, I made a type specimen poster for Times New Roman. I arranged important content about Times New Roman on the poster in a way that emphasized and showcased the typeface’s unique qualities. On top of that, the poster also recognized the typeface’s history and its usage today.

Form and Composition Designs
This assignment is an exploration of how objects in space can convey meaning through their placement in relation to other objects in space and to the space itself. The main point of this project is to get a better grasp of the Gestalt Principles, which is essential to my foundation as a designer. The small, finished masterpieces exemplify the essence of Gestalt: where the whole compositions will be more interesting than their individual parts. The final sets of word pairs exemplified this as well. Given the list of word pairs, a viewer is able to confidently identify which words my compositions are illustrating – that’s how clearly the meaning are visually communicated.

The word pairs I had to create compositions for in this project were:
1. playful + serious
2. noisy + quiet
3. dangerous + safe

Part 1: Just Squares

At the beginning, we were only allowed to use squares to convey each word pair

Part 2: Add the Letter
After finishing the squares, I added in a letterform to add more dimension to the piece and get to play around more with shapes. The letter I chose is "Q"
